Frequently Asked Questions

about Harvest Shares

1. What if we need more for a special occasions or for preserving?

We will announce if there is an over zealous crop and take orders.   You can
also purchase items at 10% off at any of our farmers markets.

2. How much is in one share?

This has always been a very difficult question to answer.   Early in the season
the shares usually prove to be smaller due to the fact that there just isn't that
much fruit and produce ripe in our area during those weeks.  As we enter into the
true summer harvest season the shares may not only fill, but overflow the bags.
A vegetarian family who rarely eats out may need more than the "weekend gourmet"
will.    Additional shares may be added at anytime during the season at a
prorated amount.  At any rate, our CSA shares will make a great compliment to
your weekly menus.

3. Do you take credit cards?

New in 2012, we are now accepting credit cards.  You can pay
online, using Paypal.  You may also find us on location at a
market or other drop-site and pay with your card directly
using the Square network.  Both ways are very secure
.

4. Do you offer full shares and half shares?

In the past we offered two sizes of Harvest Boxes.  Currently we only offer one
size share.

5. How long is your season?

Our season runs 18 weeks, the week of June 11 through the week of October 8,
2012.   The CSA week starts on Monday and ends on Sunday.

6. Can I pick which items I receive?

We are not a grocery store, but a working farm. We grow everything in its season
and pick it at its best. The share is a balanced mix of what the farm has available
in the field on that particular week.  Our members tell us they love getting
surprised each week, and they enjoy trying things they wouldn't otherwise have tried.

7. Can members visit the farm?

Each season we begin with an Open Farm Day (weather permitting).    All harvest
box members and friends of the farm are invited.  We don't discourage other
visits but please keep in mind that we attend markets four days a week. On the
other days we are picking produce and getting your bags and boxes together!
Needless to say we are very, very busy. Please call or email first for a visit.

8. How do I pick up my Harvest Box?

Market pickups are as easy as finding our booth and getting our attention. Intel
pickups are different for each campus and cafeteria. Generally the bags will be
found in a Bon Appetit cooler and you just help yourself. NIKE pickups will have
a designated place and time set up in advance.  NE Portland pickups will be for
one hour or more at the park.
Specific instructions will be sent for each pickup

site before the season starts.

9. What happens if we are out of town on distribution day?

We suggest you have a friend/ relative/ neighbor pick up your share. We cannot
give refunds because we've planted months earlier. We can on occasion change
drop off points for you, however, this has been becoming increasingly difficult
for us. We suggest having someone else pick it up for you.

10. What are we doing during the months we are not delivering produce?

The work never completely stops on Sun Gold farm. We will clean and prepare the
fields as much as possible before winter sets in. All the planning of crop
rotations and seed purchasing has to be done. Repair work on equipment for the
next season. Fine tuning Vicki's Harvest Box program for another year and
honestly, we take a vacation! Hopefully somewhere warm.

11. How much does it cost to become a member?

The price for the 2012 harvest season will be $420.00.

12. Can I pick up my harvest box at Intel, NIKE or Columbia even though
      I do not work there?

We only drop boxes off at the cafeteria inside the Intel, Nike and Columbia
campuses. With the tight security at these campuses it is impossible for non
employees to go inside. You have to be an employee or a contractor to pick up at
Intel, NIKE or Columbia.

13. What if I can no longer receive a Harvest Box?

The harvest box program is prepaid early in the season so that we can better
prepare for the harvest. Each person is counted on to take their share for the
full season. No refunds can be given because your share is already planted,
being weeded, watered and cared for until it is ready for you.

14. When can I sign up?

We will open applications for the 2012 harvest season on January 2, 2012.
If you would like to be on our reminder list, please email
vicki@sungoldfarm.com. If you are a current member, we've got your number!

15. How do I sign up?

Click here to go to our sign up page. New in 2012, you can now sign up in several
ways.  The traditional way is to print a for and send it with your check to the
address listed. We are now taking credit cards.  You can sign up online using such,
or find us at any one of our frequent visits to our drop-sites.

16. How do I get my newsletter?

You will receive your newsletter and recipes via email.  Please provide us with a
good, legible address on your sign up form.  If you want additional addresses to
receive the newsletters please write these in as well.  There is no additional
charge.  Sometimes the newsletters get spammed.  If you think you have not
received your newsletter, it is most likely in the Junk Mail Box.  Please add us
to your contacts.

17. What if I miss my pick up time?

Please understand the time and logistics we have put into share deliveries.   It
is difficult for us to change our weekly routine and still have time to farm! If
you have forgotten or are not able to pick up your share, it will be distributed
to the Oregon Food Bank and will not go to waste.
